2018/2019 Tryouts

The Sharon Soccer Association is pleased to announce that registration for the 2018/2019 Travel Soccer season is now open. Access to the registration system can be found on the Sharon Soccer website here.   The registration fee this year has been increased to $255 and includes participation in tryouts which will be held in early June as well as both the fall and spring seasons of soccer.

Sharon Soccer Association requires all travel team players to try out. To try out for the 2017-2018 travel soccer teams, players must attend at least ONE of the following age-appropriate sessions.

Please do not show up unless your age group is trying out. You will NOT be permitted to try out with other age groups. There will be no exceptions.  Please refer to the Age Chart first to ensure that you will be trying out with the correct group.

     Travel Tryout Instructions

Tryout Registration MUST be done online prior to the date of the tryout! Tryout registration is now open.  You do not have to register separately for each day if you are planning on going to both days of tryouts for your age group! You only have to register once.

At check-in, players will be issued a tryout number for Challenger coaches to score performance in various drills and scrimmages.  No player is to be on the field without their assigned number.  Tryout numbers will be collected after each tryout and returned to SSA board members at the field.  Numbers remain the property of Sharon Soccer Association.  If you come back for the second day of tryouts, you will receive the same tryout number that you were issued on the first day.

(You will be directed to our SportsPilot online registration site)

SSA will be taking photos of the players at tryouts so that you do not have to mail them in during the summer (and we don’t have to collect them.)  The photos will NOT be used for any other purpose than the Player ID Cards.  All U12 and U14 players will have pictures taken after receiving their tryout numbers.

The above scheduled times are for THAT specific age group.  Please CAREFULLY check the age eligibility and schedule charts above and arrive at the appropriate date & time.  No one will be permitted to try out in a different age group.

Please arrive at the time posted so that the registration process can be completed and all players can take the field on time. Tryouts will start promptly at the scheduled time.

Tryouts will be held in all weather conditions, except a thunderstorm. In the event of a cancellation, make-up dates will be posted on our website and if you registered online an email will be sent to you (another benefit of registering online!)  Dress appropriately for the weather.  Layering is normally the preferred method of staying warm in any weather conditions.

ll parents and family should wait outside the fence and off the tryout fields.  Only designated SSA staff and evaluation coaches are permitted on the field.  Please help the SSA staff by reminding other parents of this rule.

Team Selections:

The SSA Board will hold team selection meetings after all tryouts have been completed.  Players are rostered based on the number of children in each age/sex grouping, the Challenger evaluations from tryouts, and travel coach evaluations.  As you might expect, not all tryout participants will be offered a position on a travel team.  Those players who are not offered a position will be placed on a wait list.

Travel teams will be posted on the SSA website in early July.

Please refrain from calling or contacting coaches, board members, or the registrar regarding selections, as they are not authorized to give out information prior to posting of teams on the web.

Registration Note: Once the teams have been posted, you will have two weeks to register online for the team to which you were rostered.  If you do not register before the two week deadline, you are no longer guaranteed a spot on that team.  More information about team registration to come.

Tryout Player Rules:

Children MUST wear shin guards (inside their socks) to participate in tryouts. We cannot make any exceptions to this requirement.

Children should bring their own, properly inflated (8.5 psi), CORRECTLY SIZED ball to tryouts. Children trying out for Grade 7/8 teams should have a Size 5 ball. All other children trying out for travel soccer should have a Size 4 ball.

Children should bring their own water bottle.

Children should NOT wear their current Sharon Soccer uniforms or any other jersey with a number on it. Children wearing a numbered shirt will be asked to turn it inside-out before participating in tryouts.

Soccer cleats are recommended, but not required. Please note that cleats intended for use in other sports (e.g. football, baseball or lacrosse) are not permitted.

Attendance at both days of tryouts is recommended, but not required. There is no penalty for not attending both days of tryouts, nor does it matter which day your child attends if he/she can only make one day.

If your child cannot participate in tryouts for some reason (e.g. injury, doctor’s order, out-of-town travel, etc…), please contact Kerry Soby (, John Baur ( and Stuart Baur ( as soon as possible.

    All jewelry is prohibited.

Please follow the direction of the Challenger coaches at all times.

Review and observe the SSA Code of Conduct that is found on our website.

Play your best and good luck!
